Dallas pop-punkers NU-95 recently released their new album, Fall Until We Fly, and they are taking the new songs on tour with them to fans around the United States. The band consists of bassist Haley Garman, guitarist Grant Yoder and guitarist Ramses Ramirez, all original members, plus new members DaeDae Dodd on drums and vocalist Ivan Prochaska.

The sound of NU-95 is an electrifying mixture of emo, pop, punk, alternative and hardcore. In other words, they’re after uniqueness in the musical realm, and Fall Until We Fly is their first step into the new beyond.

Recently Hollywood Soapbox exchanged emails with Ramirez and Dodd about the new album. Questions and answers have been slightly edited for style.

What’s the music scene like in Dallas?

Ramirez: The music scene here in Dallas is pretty diverse. I’d say the main music is metalcore/post hardcore. And a few pop-punk bands.

So with how diverse we are, we either get to play metalcore shows and be the softest band playing, or we play the pop-punk shows and be the heaviest band playing.

What can fans expect on the new album, Fall Until We Fly?

Dodd: They can expect a lot. It’s a very diverse album. Each person can relate to a certain song or maybe all the songs on the album.

How would you describe the sound of NU-95?

Dodd: Very unique. It’s not like a straightforward one way type of street of music. You can get many feelings in one song.

What inspired the band’s name?

Ramirez: It’s basically a little play on words. I joked about saying that the band should be our priority and be our main job, and it can be our ‘new 9 to 5.’ So I kind of just combined it all together and put it as NU-95.

What’s a live performance by the band like?

Dodd: Ton of energy, never a dull moment, we always have fun on stage.
