2011 OSCARS: Animated Feature Film, Foreign Language Film

Now, we’re really getting close to the top categories. The Best Animated Feature Film category always ends up with a worthy film getting recognized. My one problem with the category is that since it was first launched a few years ago, there never seems to be any competition. One animated movie easily beats out the others, almost to the point where there shouldn’t be a contest.

Best Foreign Language Film, on the other hand, is usually one of the most competitive categories.

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE FILM

  • How to Train Your Dragon — Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois
  • The Illusionist — Sylvain Chomet
  • Toy Story 3 — Lee Unkrich

Thoughts: All worthy contenders, but come on, Toy Story 3 has it in the bag. It’s the only one of the three nominated for Best Picture.

Who Will Win: Toy Story 3

Who Should Win: Toy Story 3

BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM

  • Biutiful — Mexico
  • Dogtooth — Greece
  • In a Better World — Denmark
  • Incendies — Canada
  • Outside the Law — Algeria

Thoughts: This one will probably go to Biutiful, if for no other reason than Javier Bardem’s performance is nominated for Best Actor.

Who Will Win: Biutiful

Who Should Win: Biutiful
