Comic fangirls and fanboys unite! Ontario, California, is set to host Comic Con Revolution the weekend of May 19 and 20. There’s a bevy of celebrities, comic book artists, voice actors and writers set to descend on the Ontario Convention Center for two days of entertainment and cosplay fun.

Appearing at the convention are Kevin Conroy (voice actor for Batman: The Animated Series), Lance Henriksen (Millennium), Sam Jones (Flash Gordon) and Ming Chen (Comic Book Men), among others. One of the most anticipated guests is Susan Eisenberg, voice actor of Wonder Woman in such projects as Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, Wonder Woman, Superman/Batman and Injustice.

Recently, Hollywood Soapbox exchanged emails with Eisenberg about all things superhero. Questions and answers have been slightly edited for style.

How did you develop the voice of Wonder Woman for the various projects you’ve been part of?

When I booked the job on Justice League, I was lucky enough to have Bruce Timm and Andrea Romano helping me craft the character of Wonder Woman, and that never changed throughout the run of the series! And for every project after that, there was always a director there to help guide me.

Did you receive direction on the voice, or did you have freedom to develop it?

I was told that Diana had to sound like both a princess and a warrior, and I tried to maintain both of those elements of her character throughout the series and virtually every time I’ve voiced her since.

Do you prefer to voice act with the entire ensemble in the same room or privately in a studio?

I think every actor would agree that it’s more gratifying to work alongside other actors, rather than alone, and there was something so wonderful about working on the Justice League as an ensemble. There we were, together in the studio at WB, not only developing relationships as actors and co-workers, but also as the characters we were portraying.

Were you a big fan of comic books before taking on this role?

I wasn’t. One of the many gifts of voicing Wonder Woman has been discovering the vast world of comic books and the extraordinary people who create them. The writers, artists, inkers … I am in awe of their talent, and I have become a huge fan of the genre!

Do you like meeting fans at comic conventions? What’s the experience like?

Meeting the fans is just the best. We’re all fans of hers, and being able to share in that at cons has been so moving to me. Hearing from people how she has affected their lives, how she has mattered to them in both their childhoods and adulthoods … well, that has been one of greatest privileges of my life!
