‘Monster-Mania’ PREVIEW: Freddy, ‘The Walking Dead,’ ‘The Blair Witch Project’ and more!

The feast of ghosts and ghouls is ready to spill some blood this weekend. It’s time for Monster-Mania Con, held biannually in Cherry Hill, N.J. The three-day convention, which takes place Friday, March 9 through Sunday, March 11, promises to instill many nightmares before the weekend is complete.

Headlining the horror bash is Robert Englund, aka Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street and its many sequels. The actor will be on hand, signing autographs and posing for pictures with fans. A nice thing to get signed (besides the usual 8×10 photograph): Englund’s recent autobiography called Hollywood Monster.

The three actors from The Blair Witch Project (Heather Donahue, Michael C. Williams and Josh Leonard) will reunite for Monster-Mania, while Alex Winter, Anthony Michael Hall and True Blood’s Kristin Bauer will sign autographs.

The Walking Dead reunion, which is becoming a staple of any horror convention, will feature IronE Singleton, Chandler Riggs and Michael Rooker.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre will be represented by Gunnar Hansen, aka Leatherface, while Kane Hodder and Don Shanks will represent the two most famous slasher flicks of all time.

David Prowse, aka Darth Vader, will attend, plus Lisa Marie, William Sadler, Lloyd Kaufman and Tuesday Knight.

Tickets are priced at $25 for each day, or $50 for a weekend pass. Although passes will be available at the door, expect some lines for the show, especially on Saturday. Monster-Mania almost always is packed to the gills with fanboys and fangirls. There is also a limited number of VIP passes for $200.

The action takes place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel at 2349 Marlton Pike West in Cherry Hill, N.J., just a few minutes drive from Philadelphia, Pa (about two hours from New York City).

The convention opens at 5 p.m. on Friday and stays open until 10 p.m. Saturday goes from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition to the vendors room and autograph opportunities, Monster-Mania will feature public screenings of Star Wars, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Ed Wood, The Blair Witch Project, Lost Boys, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, Hatchet and Vampire Circus, among others.
