The Walking Dead is currently invading the Big Apple thanks to the New York Comic Con. Walking around the busy corridors of the Jacob Javits Center, one would stand out like a sore thumb if he or she weren’t wearing zombie makeup. Look left, left right, there’s someone dressed up as a character from the hit AMC series.

Now fans can relive their favorite moments from The Walking Dead and take part in a zombie apocalypse. The Walking Dead Escape, the brainchild of Liam Brenner, will descend upon the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum. The obstacle course features fans acting as survivors and walkers, and it’s all about surviving without contamination. Recently, Brenner exchanged emails with Hollywood Soapbox to talk about all things undead.

How did the idea come about to license The Walking Dead for this unique “Escape” experience?

As a big fan of the apocalypse and obstacle racing it seemed like a great fit — pitch the idea to Robert Kirkman and his team and that’s where this all started.

What can survivors and walkers expect from the big event in New York City?

Fans of The Walking Dead have been reading and watching the zombie apocalypse unfold for years – our goal is to let them live it.

Have you been surprised by the success of ticket sales (at the previous event and the upcoming NYC event)?

With the incredible success of all things The Walking Dead, we are thankful to be part of that success and ideally give fans one more way to appreciate Walker madness.

Is the insurance policy through the roof? How do you keep these undead participants safe?

The Walking Dead Escape team takes safety very seriously and works hard to build an event that is both exhilarating and fun.

How did you negotiate a deal with the Intrepid? It’s quite a unique space to hold the “Escape.”

With Comic-Con in town and the shear awesomeness of the Intrepid, with its great history of service to this country, it was our first choice to host TWDE.  The team there immediately understood what we were trying to create and been amazing to work with from day one.
